Invented in 2013, The Saxinet is the only instrument of it’s kind. It plays with a wonderful rich tone using the same basic fingering as the saxophone and recorder. Its straight bore places it in the same family as the clarinet, but its alto saxophone mouthpiece and reed gives it many of the tonal and dynamic characteristics of the saxophone.
The Saxinet is available in Silver, Gold or Two-Tone and in two different keys: Bb (15” long) and C (13.5” long). It plays chromatically through 14 tones and semitones, from Bb to c. Each and every Saxinet is precisely tuned and manufactured in Canada to the strictest tolerances and includes a quality student mouthpiece, ligature, reed and cap, fingering chart and maintenance instructions.
The Saxinet is the easiest reed instrument in the world to play and maintain. If you already play the saxophone, clarinet or recorder, then you can already play The Saxinet. If you don’t already play an instrument, you can learn to play The Saxinet more quickly than any other reed instrument.
Made from solid anodized aluminum, a little over a foot long, The Saxinet is the perfect reed instrument for taking almost anywhere – on vacation, hiking, camping, to the beach, or thrown in a bag to take to the party!
Because of it’s short length, children can learn embouchure and fingering on The Saxinet long before they are old enough to begin on the saxophone or clarinet.
Besides being a lot of fun to play, The Saxinet will be an extremely important educational tool. We are making a special offer to schools interested in being among the first to use The Saxinet in their music programs. Please enquire.
The Saxinet design is inspired by classic mid-20th century sleek “modern” style while also incorporating a bit of “steampunk”. Hipsters will definitely feel cooler playing The Saxinet!
Almost every other “pocket” reed instrument (whether called a clarinet, a saxophone or a chalumeau) is designed to behave and sound basically like the clarinet. The result is a rather tame, mute (some say “stuffy”) tone that doesn’t allow much leeway in terms of coloring, glissando, jaw vibrato and dynamics and requires a tight embouchure and a lot of blowing force.
The Saxinet is the only “pocket” reed instrument that uses an alto saxophone mouthpiece and reed, which are much easier to blow, with a more relaxed embouchure, and allow many more tone-manipulating possibilities and a volume range from pianissimo to loud and brassy. The “feel” of playing The Saxinet is much more “sax-like” than “clarinet-like”.
